2 injured after suicide bomber detonates device near US consulate in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia: local media.
A suspected suicide bomber carried out an attack early Monday near the U.S. consulate in the Saudi city of Jeddah, local media reported.
The attacker is the only one reported killed, the Okaz news website reported.
Two law enforcement officers were injured in the attack, BBC reported.
The attacker was apparently headed in a car toward a mosque near the U.S. consulate, but most of the consulate’s staff have moved its offices to a new location, the Associated Press reported, citing Okaz.
The attack comes on the same date that the United States celebrates Independence Day.
The U.S. consulate was the scene of an attack in 2004, where five employees and four gunmen were killed. The Saudi wing of al-Qaeda claimed responsibility for that attack.
