At least 20 killed, 17 injured when bus plunges into river in Chitwan,Nepal, police say
At least 20 persons were killed and 17 others were injured when the bus they were aboard plunged into Trishuli River along the Narayangadh-Muglin road section at around 4:45 am in the wee hours of Friday.
According to the chief of Chitwan District Police Office (DPO) Superintendent of Police (SP) Basanta Bahadur Kunwar, the passenger bus Ga 1 Kha 3709 heading for Pokhara from Gaur met accident near kalikhola killing 20 passengers on the spot and injuring 17 others.
It has been assumed that there were 39 persons aboard in total including the bus driver and a conducter, of whom the duo are missing. The accident occurred about two and half kilometres distant from nearby Munglin, informed police.
Meanwhile, the injured have been rescued and sent to the hospitals in Bharatpur in the district while the security personnel deployed from Chitwan DPO are carrying on the search operation for those who are missing in the accident.
